TOEFL iBT4, in-class assignment

If you are eager with the thought that having a class in the computer lab means you will have more time for playing and less time for studying, then you are right, especially when I am the person in charge. In a couple of minutes you will have to play extensively on the computer and the internet to gather facts and answers my questions. But before doing that, first we will revise today's aims at studying. After reading the questions, you will see a detailed instruction and then how your paper will be evaluated.

The aims of this assignment



  • Make you aware of the differences between TOEFL iBT and the previous form of TOEFL
  • Further practice on the basic but decisive step in taking the listening section
  • Guide you to take on a habit that is potentially beneficial to iBT test taker

The tasks


  1. Find information and discuss the differences between 2 TOEFL forms
  2. Listen to a designated exercise, take notes and compose a summary
  3. Write a report on what your group have found and submit

Process



  1. Stage 1: WARM UP and FORM GROUPS

    [5 minutes]

  2. - Make groups of 2 or 3 students.
    - Vote a group leader to time the stages and assign the questions.

  3. Stage 2: GATHER INFORMATION

    [15 minutes]

    • Discuss then answer the following question. Make sure you take notes of all the ideas in the discussion:
      In what aspects does the TOEFL iBT, listening section differ from that of the traditional form of TOEFL?

  4. Stage 3: LISTEN FOR THE SUMMARY

    [10 minutes]

    1. Listen to the assigned exercises, which will be written on the board, for ONE time, note down the main ideas
    2. Discuss and write up a summary in 5 sentences for each exercises

  5. Stage 4: WRITE REPORT

    [10 minutes]

  6. Compile all the answers into a report and submit it by using the 'Comment' function at the bottom of this blog. Remember to type your names in 'Your name', copy and paste your report into 'Comment', and type the security code in the box 'Security code'.
