My first trip to Da Nang

Recently I've been on a trip to Da Nang City. Actually it was a business trip; I was there to teach a TOEIC class. Everything was memorable. I got a good class. I got good food. And I got a good view of the city at night.

The students in the TOEIC class was hard-working, though most of them were having a full-time job at day time and so could not manage to attend some of the classes. They were smart, too, as they could catch on with the my lessons pretty quickly. In that class, I skipped some reading and listening activities; instead, I focused more on vocabulary, grammar, and reading and listening strategies. I was pleased to find that they got involved in the lessons and did all the in-class tasks with great enthusiasm. In the final day, they got a full TOEIC, and amazingly, half of the frequent attendants passed the 350 score requirement. I was also pretty impressed that they enjoyed my teaching style and wished to join my next class. We had a good time in a party also, which was memorable.

My second impression with this city is the food. I must admit that regular meals were not exactly my cup of tea, though. After a couple of lunches and dinners, I decided to stick with vegetarian meal for a better taste. However, their Quang noodle (My` Qua~ng) was really out of this world. It was served with a boiled egg, which I had never seen in my life. In some places, the food was served without spool, which was kinda absurd to me. But I eventually got on well with that habbit; they served the food with very limited soup anyway.

The city at night was stunning, particularly with a view from the two major bridges: Thuan Phuoc and Han River bridges. That also explained why a ton of tourists were found on the bridges taking photographs and sight seeing. Unlike the bridges in the South (My Thuan bridge, & Ben Tre bridge), here passengers can park their vehicles along the bridges; and photographers are allowed to do their job right on the pavement along the bridges.

I returned to Nha Trang just yesterday, after 11 days in Da Nang. I still received thank you letters from my students, and sure I will do miss them, together with the lovely class, the food, and the city view. Next time in Da nang I will arrange for a trip to Ba Na Hill for a a camping trip, as recommended by my collegues and my students.
