This project aims at developing autonomous learning among learners, as agreed in class by most of the participants, and as argued by Hutchinson: "The objective of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their life". In addition, if a learner cannot go to class, (s)he can also follow up with the studying progress by visiting this page or discuss with his/her group members. At the end of this course, student can do reading practice for the TOEFL test on their own with greater motivation.
* The page is under developed and is subject to change in terms of organization and addtional sections without notice, but the content will remain the same as what can be seen today.
1. Description:
Learners will gather in group of 2 or 3 to work on assigned reading passages. Every week, the groups will take turn to make presentations about the topic (hereby known as Info Presenters), the questions (Question Presenters), and Vocabulary (Vocabulary Presenters) while other students will contribute ideas and ask questions. Teacher will monitor group work progress and provide support if necessary. Learners can contact teacher at any time to ask questions or discuss any ideas. However, it is recommended that learners try to solve it in the groups first.2. Requirements:
All students should prepare the assigned reading passages in order to catch up with the lessons in class and ask questions.3. Tasks:
* For Info Presenters
- User your own words to present the information about the topic
- Find multimedia (pictures, audio, video) to illustrate the topic
- Make sure you can go beyond the book. That is to find more interesting information about the topic.
* For Question Presenters
- List the question type and a suggested answer for each question
- Make sure you can explain your choice of answer
* For Voca Presenters
- Make one phrase/ sentence to summarize each paragraph
- Prepare (at least) 5 vocabulary items with definition
- Make sure the definitions are simple and easy to remember
- Make a word game or anything that help the audience to remember the new words
Note: Each group must write a journal to reflect on the group work's progress, including what difficulties you may have, or what affected your work...
