discuss and present: free time activities

In a TOEIC level 1 class, (pre-intermediate???), the topic is a bit too big, so I'd like to narrow down into 3 sub-topics like this:
1. What did you do last summer vacation?
2. What are you going to do this weekend?
3. Tell me one thing you do in your free time?

With the topics posted on the board, I break the class into three groups and assign the topics. Also, I tell them to choose a title for their group, and a person to note down the disscussed ideas so that (s)he can later make a 3-minnute presentation.

So the class turn out to be a free discussion. Most of them make up a long list of things, but I facilitating them by telling that they just need to prepare a talk about ONE thing, but the more details, the better. Also, personalize the talk with examples rather than giving general ideas. Finally, I get the representatives on a saperate row of chairs and they take turns to present the talk. They did it.

The pre-inter students in this class has limited ideas to discuss and present. However, their pronunciation is comprehensive.
